In Tirana, compare a neighbourhood bakery, market ingredients and a contemporary restaurant rather than searching for one definitive national menu. In Berat and Gjirokastër, ask what is cooked that day and how the house describes the dish. Around Korçë, the city and nearby villages add their own pastry, dairy and tavern traditions. On the Riviera, fish availability and price depend on catch, season and venue.
Names and origins overlap across families and borders. Describe what is served without turning a disputed origin story into a fact.

Allergies and vegetarian food need exact questions
Use ingredient-level questions for stock, cheese, meat fat, shared grills, pastry fillings and frying oil. A broad label such as ‘vegetarian’ may not communicate every boundary. Carry a translated allergy note and a simple fallback meal when the consequence matters.
Do not present a host’s offered raki as compulsory. Declining alcohol is acceptable; driving after drinking is not. Coffee is an everyday social rhythm, not evidence for a universal personality claim about Albanians.
When a food experience earns its price
Book a guide, cooking session or farm visit when it adds translation, access, documented regional context or a safe transport solution. Skip it when the offer is only a list of tastings available independently on the same street.
No tour partner is active until a real programme and ID are configured. Any future commercial module must disclose commission, state selection criteria and preserve a self-guided alternative.
